Understanding Your Report Card Grades
A report card provides an official snapshot of a student's academic performance at the end of a marking period, quarter, or semester. It compiles course grades, credits earned, and term Grade Point Average to determine honor roll distinctions and graduation progress.
Honor Roll Classifications
- Principal's List / Highest Honors: 3.80 – 4.00 GPA with all A's.
- High Honor Roll: 3.50 – 3.79 GPA with no grade lower than a B.
- Honor Roll / Merit Roll: 3.00 – 3.49 GPA with no failing marks.
Credits and Quality Points
Most high school year-long courses grant 1.0 credit (or 0.5 per semester). In middle school, courses are often equal (1.0 each). In college, courses vary between 1 and 5 credit hours. Courses with higher credit values exert greater pull on your cumulative GPA.
Report Card Calculator FAQ
Each subject's letter grade is converted to quality points (A=4, B=3, C=2, D=1, F=0). If courses carry different credits, multiply each grade's points by its credits, sum the results, and divide by the total number of credits.
Most middle schools and high schools grant Honor Roll at a 3.50+ GPA. High Honor Roll or Principal's List typically requires a 3.80+ or 4.00 GPA with no individual grade below a B or A-.
