The Mathematical Value of Extra Credit
Extra credit is one of the most effective ways to raise a borderline grade before final report cards are filed. Because genuine extra credit only increases your earned points without raising the denominator, every single bonus point represents 100% pure upward lift.
Extra Credit Calculator FAQ
In a points system, extra credit points are added directly to your earned points (numerator) without increasing the total possible points (denominator). Formula: New Grade = ((Earned Points + Extra Credit Points) ÷ Total Possible Points) × 100.
If extra credit is awarded within an assignment category (such as Homework), it increases your percentage in that category. If the category is worth 20% and you earn a 10% boost in that category, your final overall course grade increases by +2.0% (10% × 0.20).
