Online Grade Calculator
Calculate your current class grade with Weighted Grade Calculator with Weights or total points. Predict the exact score you need on your final exam to pass or earn an A. Step-by-step formula breakdowns included.
How to Calculate My Grade (and What Grade You Need) (Step-by-Step)
Calculating your class grade depends on whether your instructor uses Weighted Grade Calculator with Weights (percentages assigned to homework, quizzes, midterms, and the final exam) or a total points system (where every assignment earns raw points out of a possible maximum). Many students struggle when their syllabus weights don't add up to 100% or when assignments are still in progress — our calculator handles both situations automatically.
Weighted Grade Calculator
Your syllabus assigns each category a specific weight (for example, Homework 20%, Midterm 25%, Final 30%). Each score is multiplied by its weight, and the results are summed and normalized across completed coursework. Try the dedicated weighted calculator →
Points-Based Grading
Every assignment has points earned and points possible. Your grade is simply total earned ÷ total possible × 100. Our calculator also supports dropping lowest scores and adding extra credit points to see how they change your standing.
Final Exam Score Predictor
Find out exactly what grade you need on your final to pass, earn a B, or lock in an A. Includes instant feasibility badges so you know if your target is realistic or requires extra credit. Try the final exam calculator →

Quickly convert any test score to a percentage and letter grade. Score 38 out of 50? That's 76%, a C. Our test grader generates a complete grading chart for any number of questions. Try the test grade calculator →
Weighted vs. Points-Based Grading: What's the Difference?
These are the two most common grading systems used in high school and college courses. Understanding which one your class uses is the first step to accurately calculating your grade.
Weighted Grading
Each grading category (homework, quizzes, exams) is assigned a percentage weight from your syllabus. A 10-point quiz in a 30% category carries vastly different significance than a 10-point homework assignment in a 5% category. The formula is:
Grade = Σ(Score × Weight) ÷ Σ(Completed Weights)
Points-Based Grading
Every assignment has a fixed point value. A 50-point midterm and a 10-point quiz are added together directly. Your grade is simply total points earned divided by total points possible. The formula is:
Grade = (Total Earned ÷ Total Possible) × 100
Not sure which one your class uses? Check your syllabus. If it lists categories like "Homework: 20%, Tests: 40%, Final: 25%," you're in a weighted system. If it lists individual assignment point values (like "Quiz 1: 15 points, Midterm: 100 points"), you're in a points-based system.
Standard US Letter Grade Scale
This calculator uses the common US letter grading scale by default. Note that grading cutoffs vary between schools — always check your institution's specific policy. Here is the standard reference used in most US high schools and universities:
| Letter Grade | Percentage Range | GPA Value |
|---|---|---|
| A+ | 97–100% | 4.0 |
| A | 93–96% | 4.0 |
| A− | 90–92% | 3.7 |
| B+ | 87–89% | 3.3 |
| B | 83–86% | 3.0 |
| B− | 80–82% | 2.7 |
| C+ | 77–79% | 2.3 |
| C | 73–76% | 2.0 |
| C− | 70–72% | 1.7 |
| D+ | 67–69% | 1.3 |
| D | 63–66% | 1.0 |
| D− | 60–62% | 0.7 |
| F | Below 60% | 0.0 |
Grade Calculator: Frequently Asked Questions
Final Score Needed = [Target Grade − (Current Grade × (1 − Final Weight))] ÷ Final Weight. For example, if you have an 85%, want a 90%, and the final is worth 20%: [90 − (85 × 0.80)] ÷ 0.20 = 110%. Since that exceeds 100%, you would need extra credit to reach your target.
